In 1946, a student missions program, now known as Go Now Missions, was established. Four teenagers were sent to Hawaii that summer to lead a youth revival and VBS.Since then, more than 9000 students have been sent out as student missionaries worldwide, a record number. Students from Texas have contributed more than 3.6 million dollars to support their classmates who have served as missionaries in foreign countries.
Texas Baptists
It is our privilege to be a minister of the Texas Baptists (Baptist General Convention of Texas, BGCT). Texas Baptists is a cooperative organization made up of Baptist churches throughout the state of Texas. The Baptist General Convention of Texas assists churches in their efforts to carry out God’s mission of reconciling the world to himself by encouraging, facilitating, and connecting them.
Opportunities range from digging a water well to establishing a church in a coffee shop, among other things. Go Now Missions sends students all over the state and throughout the United States and the world. Students can serve anywhere from 1 week to 12 months. Service opportunities are available throughout Christmas, summer, and semester breaks.
Students must be enrolled full-time at a Texas university, be a member of a Baptist church, or participate in a local Baptist Campus Ministry to be eligible to serve. Students attending university outside of Texas but whose home church is a Texas Baptist congregation are eligible to apply.
Mature into Adulthood
Our ultimate purpose is to raise a generation of mission-minded individuals who will invest in God’s work throughout our state, nation, and the world as they mature into adulthood.Go Now will send 106 student missionaries to serve in the US, mainly in Texas, along with Mission Lab. They will be six-week summer or Impact missionaries. It is expected that they would leave for their missions on June 7.
Several student missionaries found innovative ministry concepts. She had planned to work with college students in Canada, but the epidemic interrupted her plans. Ellie felt compelled to work with college ministry and served as a virtual intern for a collegiate church in New York and a one-week team in San Antonio.
Lord’s Glory
The Lord grew me and showed me that once you are with the Lord, you are a missionary wherever you are. The Lord showed me Acts 16, where Paul intended to go to Asia, but the Lord sent him to Macedonia. This text cheered me and showed me the Lord’s plan. Ellie clarified, It is not about me or the location but the Lord’s glory.
Virtual Commissioning
There will be a virtual commissioning service at 2 p.m. on June 7. View the online service here. Sanders is delighted to see college kids on a mission and sharing the Gospel despite all the changes. They will still affect the community they serve and learn how to live a life of tasks while not going to their chosen destination.
They will have community, training, encouragement, and service, Sanders added. This summer, they will discover the rhythms of a missional life that will enable them to serve the Lord for the rest of their lives faithfully.
